We DO have the Pro Channel, which has outstanding components, and there are all kinds of freeware audio effects, and synths, available to anyone who takes the time to look into them. Those deals are no longer valid, and because Cakewalk by Bandlab is FREE, they have no means of getting into a similar situation at this point. That some 3rd-party effects came with prior versions of Sonar were part of a bundled deal that the Cakewalk company made - and they paid the 3rd-party companies out of part of the retail cost we all paid for Sonar. These effects feel that the UI is comfortable (even if Image-Line plugin effects have not been updated for a long time), but I think BandLab can develop VSTi effects plugins.

Just invest some time into learning how to use what it brings, and you will be off and running.Įmmmmm, I am a user of Fabfilter users and Image-Line effects plugins. The Pro Channel is extremely well crafted, as well, and is there right now. If you want something more 'pro-grade', there are also hundreds of commercial effects and utilities available. If you seek free effects, there are literally hundreds, of not thousands of them available, for just about everything you would need or want to do. Not to mention (but I am), that it is now completely free of charge. I also use a wide array of freeware VST and DirectX effects I have picked up over the years, each bringing something very unique to the table, and I will also post about them in the future.Cakewalk already went through a MASSIVE - actually a complete user interface redesign, beginning when they transitioned from Sonar 8.5.3 to Sonar X1, eventually ending up at Sonar Platinum, and that became Cakewalk by Bandlab, and has been FANTASTIC with continued availability and continued development, both with new features and with monthly maintenance. Sonar includes several other effects processors (that I have not familiarized myself with much yet). But the plugins were too good to pass up! I really don't care for the new fangled sequencing interface compared to Sonar. I loved the instruments and effects that came with Project 5 so much, I bought it JUST for them. The interface is very natural, uses very little screen real estate, always easily syncs to tempo with the click of a mouse, and sounds absolutely amazing. Out of all the effects packages I own, this collection is my favorite. There are a quite a few gems in this collection. Although I think the Sonitus compressors and equalizers have a more natural sound, Sony brings up the "loudness maximizer" to truly mash all the dynamics out of a sample if you just need a really loud or punchy drum sample (for example). Sony has included some very interesting and useful effects with Sound Forge. Of course, with any good sample editor comes a collection of DirectX effects that can be used in any other application which supports it. Sound Forge is my current "destructive" sample editor of choice.

I have A/B'ed these effects with their much more expensive counterparts, made by Steinberg, Waves, and other flagship companies, and saw absolutely no compelling reason to pay extra money when I get such top notch equalizers, limiters, and other effects for free with Sonar. Cakewalk bought this effects suite and began including it bundled with their Sonar product lines.
